Product Features
Application: Pre-emergence herbicide, can prevent and control annual grass weeds and some annual broadleaf weeds, suitable                        for weeding corn, cotton, peanut and soybean fields
                     No definitive mode of action is known at the molecular level. Reported to inhibit cell division by blocking protein synthesis. It is reported that chloroacetamides inhibit synthesis of very long chain fatty acids (J. Schmalfuss et al., Abstr. Meeting WSSA, Toronto, 2000, 40, 117-118; P. Böger, Abstr. III Int. Weed Control Congr., Brazil, 2000). Maize tolerance of chloroacetamides is due mainly to conjugation with glutathione; P450 metabolism may also be a factor.
                     Used pre-emergence or pre-plant to control annual grasses, certain annual broad-leaved weeds and yellow nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus) in maize (at 3 kg/ha), peanuts, soya beans, cotton, potatoes and sugar cane.

Some trade names for products containing acetochlor include Acenit, Guardian, Harness, Relay, Sacemid, Surpass, Top-Hand, Trophy and Winner (205, 206, 207). Most formulations come as emulsifiable concentrates.

General Information about Acetochlor:
Acetochlor is a Herbicide widely used on corn, and to a limited extent, also on soybeans. In 2005, Acetochlor was applied to 33% of Minnesota corn acres, making it the third-most-used corn Herbicide in the state in terms of acres covered.

Acetochlor controls weeds by inhibiting growth of seedling shoots. It needs to be applied before weeds germinate to be effective; therefore, it is typically applied just before or after planting. Acetochlor provides good control of most annual grassy weeds and a number of annual broadleaf weeds. Its control of perennial weeds is limited to yellow nutsedge.

Acetochlor is often used in combination with other Herbicides to obtain "broad-spectrum" weed control. Atrazine is the most common Herbicide used in combination with Acetochlor.

It is mainly used in drylands as a single agent, but its compound is used in large quantities and safely in water fields. It is suitable for use on soybean, corn, peanut, cotton, potato, sunflower, rape, sesame, radish, sugar cane and other crops, as well as in orchards and other leguminous, cruciferous, solanaceous, chrysanthemum and umbelliferous crops, and can control annual grasses and some dicotyledonous weeds.
